Gardai believe touring criminal gang is responsible for Co. Tipperary car break-ins

Gardai believe a criminal gang is responsible for break-ins to four cars in The Glen of Aherlow, Dundrum and Galbally on the same day last week.

The cars were broken into in these locations between 2pm and 4pm last Wednesday, October 17.

Gardai at Tipperary Town Garda Station believe the crimes were committed by the same gang that struck at other locations in the county the same day.

A Tipperary Garda Station spokesman said a wallet was stolen from a car parked on the Main Street in Dundrum and another car parked at Dundrum House Hotel was broken into but no property was stolen.

A handbag and iPhone charger were swiped from a car parked at the car park near the Christ The King statue in the Glen of Aherlow while the fourth car break-in occurred at the Hillcrest Riding School at Galbally.

The Garda spokesman said gardai investigating the thefts believe they were carried out by thieves travelling in a red Volkswagen Golf car.

He appealed to car owners to ensure their cars are locked and not to leave valuables inside them or visible to the public.

"These are opportunitistic criminals. A person will stop at a shop, get out of the car and leave it unlocked and all it takes is a few minutes for them to strike while they are inside the store,” he said.

Borrisoleigh and Thurles were among the other locations where the gang broke into or attempted to break into cars the same day.

Meanwhile, gardai in Tipperary Town are also investigating the theft of a handbag and €250 cash from a car parked outside Cappawhite Community Centre on Sunday between 7.45pm and 10.15pm.

Anyone with information that may assist the gardai investigating this and the other four car break-ins should contact Tipperary Garda Station at (062) 51212.
