Meals on Wheels in Clonmel want to hear from people who find it difficult to cater for themselves

Mary Aikenhead Meals on Wheels, a registered charity also known as Clonmel Meals on Wheels, has been providing a service to the people of the town and surrounding areas for more than the last fifty years.

The organisation's aim is to always provide fresh and healthy meals and deliver them to the door of people in the community.

The service is available five days a week from Monday to Friday and a meal for each day of the week is catered for. Two extra meals can be delivered on Friday to cater for the weekend.

The meals are delivered each morning between 10am and 1pm. After first delivery, meals will arrive at approximately the same time every day.

The meals consist of dinner and either dessert or soup. The cost is €5 per meal. The soup, dessert and dinner change daily.

If there is a special dietary requirement, such as dislikes/diabetes/allergies, Meals on Wheels are happy to accommodate.

"The commitment from our chefs in the Cluain Training and Enterprise Centre, based in Nelson Street, who have been supplying delicious meals to our customers all year round, and the dedication of our drivers provided to us by St.Vincent de Paul in Anglesea Street, form the soul of this service", said a spokesperson for the organisation.

"Without them it couldn’t happen".

The organisation wants to reach out to the many in the community who believe they need the service and invites people, their parent or parents, neighbour, friend or anyone else to avail of Meals on Wheels.

"We cater for anyone who finds it hard to cater for themselves.

“It can be for many different reasons, whether it's short or long term", said the spokesperson.

"The service we provide can help keep people living in their own home for longer and it’s another daily contact for someone living alone.

“It also gives peace of mind to family members who don’t live close by, knowing that their loved ones are being looked after on a regular basis.

"The set-up is quick and easy, a few details are needed from the customer, which need to be processed and forwarded to the kitchen and the drivers. Usually within 24 hours the customer will have their first meal delivered".

To enquire more about the service please feel free to contact Janet on 087-3382209, or send a private message on the Facebook page – Clonmel Meals on Wheels.
