Molly Browne
Molly Browne has announced her candidacy for the Local Elections in the Tipperary/Cashel Local Electoral Area on behalf of Sinn Féin.
Molly, 32, who works in the childcare sector and is part of the generation who have found their prospects of home ownership further away than ever, believes younger generations need a strong voice in the decision making.
In a statement on Monday, Molly said: “I am excited to be one of the three Sinn Féin candidates running in the Tipperary/Cashel LEA, alongside Cllr Annemarie Ryan and Cllr Tony Black.
“I have worked in the childcare sector since leaving school, I am also part of the generation who is locked out of ever having a home of my own. Due to decisions of this current government and successive governments I am still living with my parents and don’t see any possibility of ever being able to secure my own home.
“I am of the generation who have been left behind. From my years of working in childcare I also see the struggles families face on day-to-day bases. It is deeply troubling to see the pressures that these families are under. As such, I want to work to address this.
“This is why I feel the younger generations need a strong voice in the decision making on Tipperary County Council - we need somebody who actually knows what it’s like to be a young adult in Tipperary and Ireland today.
“Unfortunately, for women and younger people, entry into the political sphere can be seen as a daunting prospect. Through my candidacy I want to challenge this, and to work to break the barriers that prevent so many activists from becoming involved in politics.
“I also want to challenge the false narratives that circulated by some who seek to sow division yet offer no substantial resolutions to the issues that are really affecting so many in the areas of housing, health, public services, and of course, the cost of living.
“These are very important elections, and to make the changes needed at national level, we need to ensure that we have strong Sinn Féin teams on county councils across the country.
“Sinn Féin are running its largest number of candidates ever in these elections, and I am honoured to be playing my role by putting my name forward so I can work hard for the people of the Tipperary/Cashel LEA, and County Tipperary in general.
“I feel that with my experience of working in the childcare sector and with helping my father Martin Browne in his work as a councillor and now as a TD, I am in a position to help the public at every level.
“I ask you to please put their faith in me. Team Sinn Féin is committed to bringing about the change that people need – that is why we are putting forward a record number of candidates in Tipperary and nationally.”
