It has been a good year for this Tipperary town, says local councillor

It has been a good year overall for one particular Tipperary town, with progress being made in a number of key areas, according to a local councillor.

I am particularly pleased that work on the courthouse in Newport is set to go ahead in the near future. This will be an important boost locally, said Cllr John "Rocky" McGrath of Nenagh Municipal District Council.

"Vital improvements to Newport Wastewater Treatment Plant are expected to commence mid-2023 and be completed by the end of 2024. I have been constantly pursuing this much-needed work and the news that ongoing problems will be sorted is very welcome," he said.

Cllr McGrath said that he knew that many local people were frustrated by the council’s policy not to treat roads in mountainy areas during the recent bad weather, but he was pleased that his special request to have the road to Templederry treated for a recent match was granted for the safety of all those who attended the game.

Cllr McGrath concluded by saying that there has been welcome work carried out on footpaths. lighting and bridges during this year.

"I will continue to highlight areas that need attention by the council throughout the year ahead," he said.
