Clodiagh Rangers down near neighbours in good league win

Clodiagh Rangers B 2

Rearcross B 0

Clodiagh’s push for honours continued in a bright sunny Drombane on Sunday last. Rearcross were the visitors and Clodiagh were hoping for some measure of revenge after succumbing to a heavy defeat in the corresponding away fixture earlier this season.

The opening spell of the game passed uneventfully as Clodiagh probed for an opener, Conor Ryan coming closest for the home side when his powerful drive was saved by the Rearcross keeper in the 27th minute.

The game remained a stalemate until the 41st minute, a good inswinging corner was bravely met by the head of Jack Butler who prodded the ball down for Pa Dwyer to blast home the opener for Clodiagh.

The second half began well for Clodiagh as they pushed to double their lead. The occasional foray forward by the away side was easily dealt with by Ryan Davern in the Clodiagh goal who was in good form after returning from injury.

The game was made safe in the 77th minute when Oisin Treacy displayed his typical craftiness when he capitalised on a defensive mix up to give Clodiagh the all important two goal cushion.

Joint manager Vincent Ryan spoke to us after the game and was typically forthright, “Another strong performance from the team who have been improving game on game since Christmas, we just hope we can keep up this level until the end of season and be in the mix for the title.”
