North Tipperary District League
Clodiagh Rangers B 4
Ballymackey B 0
The impressive surroundings of Ballymackey’s home ground was the venue for Clodiagh’s latest victory in their push for honours.
A strong squad travelled for the away side which featured a look to the future as well as a glance at the past. The future was on full display early on as Oisin Treacy once again showed his determination to succeed as he opened the scoring on 22 minutes after some excellent work from Pa Dwyer left him with an easy finish to give Clodiagh a deserved lead.
Treacy took it upon himself to engineer the second as he once again capitalised on some lacklustre defending to score from a tight angle after robbing the unfortunate Ballymackey keeper, a clever finish that was enjoyed by all the travelling supporters.
Clodiagh could sense blood in the water as a shell shocked Ballymackey struggled to come to terms with their pressing game, a series of corners went to waste before Jack Butler finally met one with one his trademark headers to put the away side three goals up before half time.
The second half began much as the first finished with the away side well on top, but some wasteful play up front meant Clodiagh had to wait for the introduction of Seamus Cullagh to finally put the result beyond doubt.
Some neat passing between Conor Ryan and Mickey Griffin eventually fed the ball to Paul Ryan who laid a perfectly weighted pass to Cullagh to hit a first time daisy cutter to the bottom right corner leaving the Ballymackey keeper stranded and the game well and truly out of reach for the home side.
Impressive showings from Niall Grant, Enna Ryan and keeper Ryan Davern in the Clodiagh defence meant they also maintained their 5 game run without conceding.
Generally, this has to be considered Clodiagh’s best performance of the season so far, against a well-established club of Ballymackey’s stature, FAI Club of the year 2018, for both teams it must be said, the future is bright.
Joint manager Michael Browne spoke after the game “It’s always great to get an away win under any circumstances, but to come to Ballymackey with such a strong team and to have an experienced bench that we can rely on means nobody, home or away can take us for granted this season”
