Great joy and celebration followed the Tipperary senior camogie Munster final victory last Saturday.
The manager of the side is former Toomevara hurler Denis Kelly and he said in the dressing room after the game that planning and workrate week in week out was the secret of their success:
"It is a long term project and this win is proof that clever work pays off. We stuck to the game plan.Clare were living off free's really and we spoke at half time about our poor discipline and how we were keeping them in the game. We kept our heads, kept hurling and were convincing winners in the end.
"It is a great day. The likes of Cait Devane and Mary Ryan have stuck at it since 2010 and it takes courage to keep coming back year after year and stay at it. They faced defeat each year and both of them added so much to our set up. Some of the players today were only five or six in 2010 so the experience of today means a lot to everybody," the Tipperary manager said.
Moneygall native Mary Ryan, who has played for over twenty years for the Tipperary senior camogie team, said it was worth all the effort for days like last Sunday: "Absolutely. As everyone knows it is a long time since we brought silverware back to Tipperary senior camogie. This squad is destined for mighty things. The young ones coming up along are adding such fire to this group and there are big things to come. Getting silverware is absolutely fantastic and we look forward to the All-Ireland championship," the former All-Star full back said.
Cait Devane, who was the only other member of the panel with a medal from 2010, agreed with her teammate: "I echo what Moll said and would add that we are enjoying every minute of it. There is an awful lot of work that goes into days like today. Unseen work and this has been building for the last couple of years. All the young girls are bringing an energy with them, a type of fearlessness that drives us all on.
"They are keeping us on our toes and that is the way it should be. We knew coming in here today that Clare were going to pose a massive challenge and they did. We just worked really hard and it all showed," the Tipp full forward said.
The Clonoulty Rossmore native also praised her captain at number six, Karen Kennedy:
"She is the backbone to the team. She drives forward with the ball and delivers it. The ball into the forwards was absolutely unbelievable today. She made our job inside incredibly easy and I'm thrilled she got player of the match as well."
