Billy Heaney, Clonmel AC.
Massive congratulations to Fionn Aird, who took first place in the 600 metres race at the Munster Bs in Templemore. Fionn works tirelessly, and the payoff came. The club was delighted when the news came in. Fionn has such a support network around him at home, always encouraging each other to get out and try a sport, so this is a great reward for them all.
There’s a lot more to come from this athlete.
Fantastic work also by Cathal Egan (U11 boys) at the county Bs in track and field. Cathal won not only one but two gold medals in 60m and 500m. Well done Cathal, you’ve come a long way from the county indoors early in the season, you have been working so hard this year.
Out to get some extra work done, as always, was Adam Prout (U14 boys) in the Munster Bs. Adam is a fantastic athlete, and every day he goes out it’s to do his best but also learn from those around him. A man of few words, Adam lets his work do the talking - a fantastic silver medal in the 80m sprint, and another silver medal in the long jump earned Adam two podium spots in this years Munster B championship.
Adam works hard, is a humble winner and gracious in defeat. Exactly the type of young man you would be proud to have on your squad. The club is grateful to you, Adam, for representing us with distinction.
Also attending the county Bs was Tom Carroll (U9 boys) and he picked up a third place finish in the turbo javelin. Well done Tom. All that practice is paying off.
Tom also competed in the 60m sprints, finishing in tenth place, and the long jump finishing ninth.
These are fantastic improvements this year from Tom who never misses a training session, and loves to encourage his little brothers to be active also, which in itself is a huge achievement. Paying it forward is what it’s all about and you’re never too young to start.
Another hard worker headed off to the Munster Bs on Sunday. Billy Heaney (U10 boys) is never afraid to get stuck in and had his learning hat on for the competition. Billy competed in the 60m and bravely fought for fifth place on a fast day. He also toed the line for the long jump and tied for fourth.
We’re so proud of you Billy, not only a hard worker but a fantastic big brother to Ruby and he always does everything with a broad smile. Billy will no doubt be out in force for the cross country season after the summer break.
Thank you to all the families that travelled to Templemore Athletic Club for the events. Thank you also to Templemore AC and Munster Athletics for putting on a great show as always.
The volunteers in this club go unmentioned so very often, but our own Albert Doyle deserves a nod here. He’s at training twice a week, every week, he was at a committee meeting on Wednesday evening, then he headed to Templemore for his Munster duties on Saturday and Sunday. On top of that he was trying to hit a steps challenge every day for a different commitment to a family member. Well done Albert.
