The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation has opened a charity boutique in Carrick-on-Suir to assist its fundraising efforts and is encouraging local people to support it by donating items, shopping or volunteering at the store.

The newly opened boutique, situated on Main Street near Meany’s Shoe Shop, is raising much-needed funds to help support 12 children currently under the Jack and Jill Foundation’s care across county Tipperary.

It sells a wide selection of pre-loved clothes, accessories, toys, books, LEGO and household items and is looking for donations.

Funds raised through sales in the Jack and Jill charity shop go towards in-home nursing care and respite support to local families caring for children, up to the age of six, with neurodevelopmental delay associated with a severe cognitive delay.

This may include children with brain injury, genetic diagnosis, cerebral palsy and conditions that are undiagnosed.

The charity also provides end-of life care for all children up to the age of six, irrespective of diagnosis.
“We are so proud and thrilled to be opening a new charity boutique in Carrick-on-Suir, which is so important to our fundraising drive to support in-home nursing and respite care for local families across

Tipperary and beyond,” said Deirdre Walsh, Head of Retail at Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation.

“We are currently supporting twelve local families, and since our service began in 1997, we have provided much-needed care for 72 families across Tipperary.

“We are looking forward to welcoming locals, whether they are donating pre-loved items, in search of a bargain, or even giving us a few hours of their time to volunteer.

“We have a mammoth fundraising hill of €6.8m to raise each year to keep our vital service going to support children in Tipperary and across the country, so all help is welcome ,needed and appreciated,” she added.

Shop Manager Denise Carew said the shop has already received great public support, with some fabulous new items donated.

“I am really looking forward to managing this beautiful new charity boutique and working with our wonderful volunteers to make this a great place to shop for our customers.”

The shop is open from 10am to 5.30pm, Tuesday to Saturday, and is currently recruiting volunteers who can spare a few hours a week.

The charity was founded by parents Jonathan Irwin and Mary Ann O’Brien in 1997, based on their experience of caring for their son Jack.
