Cappawhite 1-12
Knockshegowna 0-8
By John O’Shea
West Runner’s up, Cappawhite, are through to the semi-final of the FBD Junior B Hurling championship following their good victory over North champions, Knockshegowna, at Dillon Quirke GAA Grounds Clonoulty on Wednesday night.
On a cold wet night before a good crowd, Cappawhite got off to the perfect start and were always in command following a Neil Clancy goal after 30 seconds.
Indeed this advantage could have been doubled inside a minute, but the goal-bound shot came back off the post. Two Anthony Barry points, one from a free had Cappa 1-3 to nil to the good after five minutes. This explosive start set them up for the remainder of the game as they went on to lead 1-6 to 0-3 at the break. The Knockshegowna points all coming from the stick of Michael Egan.
Cappa extended their advantage after the break with Ross Dunne firing over inside a minute and Fionn Brady adding to his first-half point. Knockshegowna hit over two points either side of an Anthony Barry free on six minutes, their points coming from top scorer Michael Egan from a free and one from play from Padraig Brennan,
James Quinlan hit his first of the night after forty minutes before Michael Egan hit his fourth. Points from Anthony Barry and a second from James Quinlan had Cappa firmly in the driving seat as the game headed toward added time. Michael Egan completed the scoring with two converted frees in added time as Cappawhite advance to the semi-final where they will take on Carrick Swan.
