A free event called Why Hedgerows Matter will be held between 10am and 1.30pm this Saturday, January 13, at Pat Maher's farm at Freighduff, Cashel, E25 D211.
It will feature a hedge-laying demonstration with Richard Markham, a certified contractor; a hedge-cutting demonstration with Philip Hickey, another certified contractor; and a question and answer session with Dermot Grogan, DAFM.
There will also be a presentation on barn owls and other hedgerow birds with Aine Lynch and a team from Birdwatch Ireland; and short presentations from Pat Maher, Alan Moore (Hedgerows Ireland) and local historian Jimmy Duggan.
There will be information and a demonstration including owl/bird/bat box-making by Cashel Men's Shed; natural dyeing by Lucy Moore; local honey by Gerry Ryan; elder flower cordials by Irish Hedgerows Limited, and more.
A great day out is anticipated, with dry weather predicted.
