Carrick-on-Suir’s St Nicholas/St Molleran’s Conference of St Vincent de Paul in conjunction with 10 local secondary and primary schools delivered 100 food hampers to needy elderly people and families in the town and its hinterland this Christmas.

The Conference wrote to the the primary and secondary schools in Carrick and surrounding communities looking for ideas for its 2023 Christmas Food Appeal.

Students and teachers organised fundraisers like jumper days, quiz/question times and raffles which proved to be very successful.

The response was overwhelming with more than €5,000 raised by the schools.

The money collected was spent on providing over 100 food hampers, food vouchers and fuel to the needy in their communities community.

President of St Nicholas/St Molleran’s Conference of St Vincent de Paul Michael Lonergan thanked the principals, teachers, staff and students in all the schools along with the parents who took part in the campaign.

He congratulated them all on their magnificent efforts in raising funds to help those less fortunate in our community. “The efforts and initiative shown by our young people in our schools must be commended and we in the Conference are very grateful for all their hard work and support,” he said.

Carrick-on-Suir & District Lions Club also assisted financially the St. Vincent de Paul Conference in all their work at Christmas.
