Once again, the mid-summer ball, hosted by the Moyne social dancing committee, which took place at the community hall on Saturday, June 8, proved to be an outstanding success, with 150 people in attendance.

The annual ball is the brainchild of committee chairperson, Kay Carey.

It was with regret that patrons learned that Kay herself was unable to attend. All present extended their very best wishes to Kay.

Kay’s hardworking committee afforded a very genuine welcome to all as they entered the hall, and as always delicious food was provided.

Music on the night was by Dave Lawlor and Michael Cahill, who kept everybody on their feet until the last tune of the night.

A slow waltz and a jiving competition both formed part of the entertainment.

The adjudicator on the night was Phyllis Fyfes.

Congratulations and well done to all competitors.

The committee would like to express their gratitude to Phyllis for travelling from Newport. An exhibition of the “Cha Cha” was given by the well-known Ballroom and Latin champions, Ruth and John Connolly.

The loud applause was a testament to how much the attendees enjoyed their performance.

Fr Christy O’Dwyer, PP of Moyne Templetuohy, expressed his thanks to the dancing committee, emphasising the importance of having local halls used for the benefit of parishioners and the wider local community.

MC on the night, Mary Moore, outlined ten benefits of dancing for both physical and mental health.

The message from Mary is to “keep on dancing”.
