Lakeside Pitch and Putt, Templemore, have announced the passing of their former president, Dom Wixted.

A spokesperson for the club has said: "It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of our former President Dom Wixted on Thursday evening last. Pitch and Putt was a great passion of Dom’s and he was associated with Lakeside for many, many years. He served as Club Captain in 1986 and Club President from 1996-1998 as well as filling almost all officer roles within the club."

"He was a great man with the pen and his wit was well known in Pitch and Putt circles. Dom was also great to keep records and he was a great inspiration when Lakeside produced its club history to mark its 50th anniversary in 2015. In later years he loved to walk the course and sit on the bench at the 1st tee-box and feed the birds. A kind, gentle, fun-loving soul Dom will be sorely missed on the fairways at Lakeside and beyond. May his gentle soul rest in peace," they said.

Messages of condolence have been left online by locals remembering Dom.

One person said: "Very sad to hear of the death of one of the towns true gentlemen. A brilliant scribe during his time as Lakeside Pitch and Putt, particularly as PRO but without his input Lakeside would not be the haven it has become. He was a gentleman to his toes and I had the honour of knowing him my entire life."

Another said: "Dom was an absolute gentleman. He will be sadly missed on Marian Road and walking the park."
