The Dualla Show is on the 25th of August.
This year’s Dualla Show takes place on Sunday, August 25. The much-anticipated show ran aground last year so the fact that it is going ahead this year is an exciting prospect for all those who have attended in recent years as the show is one of the most popular of it’s kind in the country.
Ground conditions have been steady with plenty of drying thanks to sunshine and breezes all summer long. The rain is always a worry but that is just part and parcel of living on an island in western Europe.
The show consists of a mix of agricultural events, a circus, a horse show, live music, machinery and much much more. The launch morning for the show took place on Tuesday, August 6 at the historic Ballyowen House which acts as the backdrop to Dualla Show.
Young and old gathered for tea and scones, kindly hosted by Ballyowen owners PJ and Deirdre Maher. At the launch the chairperson of the Dualla Show, Jack Bourke, spoke of the importance of local communities being the lifeblood of agricultural shows and how the community had rallied after the late cancellation of last year’s event due to unsafe ground conditions.
The disappointment was intense last year. The show was called off late in the day forcing people to change plans, children to lament the loss of a big day out and those involved to deal with cancellation.
Such events are part of the fabric of rural Ireland so that fact that a show is being planned is a positive one. This year the organizers have planned a more resilient event with the help of the landowners for their crucial contribution and to the show’s sponsors, many in attendance, for their support each year to make events like Dualla Show possible.
Afterward the announcement at the launch the room was entertained by singers Trudi Lalor, Dee Morrissey and Paddy O’Brien to the delight of those present. This year’s livestock event is sponsored by FBD and will host the All-Ireland final of the Aberdeen-Angus Club Bull & Heifer of the Year competition. Special guest judge on the day will be world-famous rugby referee Nigel Owens.
The Stars of Country Music also return to Dualla, featuring singers Trudi Lalor, Shawn Cuddy, Olivia Douglas, Gerry Guthrie and Paddy O’Brien. Special thanks were extended to the Tipperary based Borrisoleigh Bottling Ltd.
On the day the music starts at 1pm with Dee Morrissey followed by Colin Kenny. The Dualla Show Live at the Marquee event features cooking demonstrations from Virgin Media TV Chef Aisling Larking. New to the show this year will be dietician Sarah Keogh who will give a talk on nutritional myths. Ultan Nesbitt will be providing gardening demos sponsored by Arrabawn.
This year’s Tractor Pulling event is sponsored by Campion Insurance. New to Dualla Show this year is a Monster Trucks event who will entertain the crowds with car crushing!
The show will also host an Arm Wrestling demo and competition featuring former Olympian and now IFA World and European Arm Wrestling Champion Adrian O’Dwyer. More details will be released closer to the event.
