PREVIEW: Senior Tipp Club Hurling Championship reaching its group crescendo

14 of the 16 senior clubs have something to play for in the Dan Breen race this weekend

Group 4

JK Brackens V Kiladangan

An intriguing clash given the way this group has developed thus far. JK Brackens have been the surprise package of the group stages with two equally impressive displays in their wins over Templederry Kenyons and Clonoulty Rossmore respectively.

Shane Keegan seems to have breathed life into the Templemore men, particularly in their attacking play, with Jamie Ormond proving to be a massive addition to them in his first year at adult hurling.

They will know for definite where they’re at come full-time in this one, coming up against seasoned campaigners in Kiladangan.

As the year progresses, they tend to only get better and they will know that they have previously struggled against Brackens and it will have them fully aware of the challenge.

There are still concerns over the match fitness of Sean Hayes but apart from that, they have options with Dan O’Meara and Eoghan Sharkey back from abroad and featuring for their Junior A team last week.

Verdict: Kiladangan

Clonoulty Rossmore V Templederry Kenyons

Two teams who are on the brink of dropping into relegation; this game has all the hallmarks of a last chance for both.
Clonoulty Rossmore will be sick that they find themselves in this situation after throwing away a big lead in round one, before getting a lesson from a slick JK Brackens team the last day out.

They could scarcely have believed they’d be in this situation after round one, but they now require a performance to stay out of relegation fare in a few weeks’ time.

It is unlikely that a win will put them in the shake up for a quarter-final spot so they must go into this game with survival in mind first, and with a full deck to choose from, they will be heading into the game at full strength.

Templederry have been awful to date and are hemorrhaging scores and it cannot be sustained if they are to continue at the senior level. They were missing Brian Stapleton the last day out and could do with his influence.

Verdict: Kiladangan
