Munster U16 A Shield Final
Waterford 2-13
Tipperary 1-9
Tipperary and Waterford met on Saturday in Fethard Town Park in the Munster U16 A Shield Final. Both sides were eager to claim some silverware and get a win under their belts as sights quickly turn to the upcoming All-Ireland series.
Waterford made full use of the wind advantage in the first half, setting the tone early with a point from Kate Mullane. They dominated the opening exchanges, racing into a 0-3 to 0-0 lead within five minutes.
Tipperary responded through a Grace Cleary point, but Waterford remained firmly in control. By the 14th minute, they had stretched their advantage to 0-8 to 0-1 as Tipperary struggled to gain a foothold.
Waterford then delivered a hammer blow with two quickfire goals—Kate Mullane and Katie Kenny both finding the net—to put real daylight between the sides.
Tipperary managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over with Cleary accurate from placed balls and Anna Carr adding a fine point from play, but at halftime, Waterford held a commanding 2-10 to 0-6 lead.
Tipperary showed signs of improvement after the break and gradually found their rhythm. A goal from Aoife Quirke brought them back into contention, narrowing the gap to 2-12 to 1-8.
They produced their best spell in the final quarter, with Cleary continuing to convert from frees, but the deficit was too much to overcome. Waterford remained composed and closed out the game as deserved winners on a 2-13 to 1-9 scoreline with Aoife Power winning player of the match.
