Nenagh AFC has appealed to the public for information after essential maintenance equipment was stolen from its facilities at Brickfields over the Christmas period.

The club confirmed that a specialised brushing machine used for the upkeep of its astro turf pitch was taken, along with two grass strimmers. The total value of the stolen equipment runs into several thousand euros.

In a statement, Nenagh AFC said the loss of the brushing machine in particular is a major setback, as the equipment is designed for very specific maintenance tasks and is not commonly used outside of astro turf pitch care.

The club has urged any clubs, individuals or businesses who may be offered such equipment to be vigilant and to contact either a member of the Nenagh AFC committee or Nenagh Garda Station.

“Equipment like this can only be used for specific jobs, so if any club or person is offered the equipment, please get into touch,” the club said.

Nenagh AFC highlighted that, like many voluntary sports organisations in the area, it relies heavily on fundraising and volunteer effort to maintain and improve facilities for its members, particularly underage players.

“Ourselves, like many other clubs in the area, do our best to provide top facilities for our members and for this to happen really sets us back,” the statement added.

The theft comes at a difficult time for community sports clubs, many of which are facing rising costs and increased pressure to maintain safe, high-quality facilities.

Anyone with information relating to the theft, or who may have seen suspicious activity around the Brickfields area during the Christmas period, is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station.
