A Tipperary village hosts a hugely successful day full of entertainment for young and old

Mullinahone hosts wonderful Little Village Festival

The Great Clane Home Baking Competition comes to Kildare on March 17

Home baking section in the Little Village Festival was a big success

The inaugural Little Village Festival took place on Sunday 4th May in CJ Kickhams GAA grounds in Mullinahone. A hugely successful day with entertainment for young and old.

There was something for everyone in the food area from artisan food stalls, coffee, crepes, home baking etc. In the demo area there was demonstrations about beekeeping, reptiles, first aid for babies and children and a demonstration on how to make leather bags and accessories.

The agri zone proved a huge hit with the younger kids, here they were able to hold rabbits etc and learn all about the care of animals.

A lively escapee at the start provided great entertainment. A very clever sheep gave a wonderful performance in its endeavour to evade its handler. Alas, the wayward sheep was soon escorted back into its enclosure much to the delight of the many young fans it made on its trip around the pitch.

The carnival zone was very busy with participants trying their hand at coconut shy, hang tough, target, smash a can, giant jenga and much more!

In the two pitches underage ladies football , camogie, gaa and soccer blitzes took place, aswell as the cross bar challenge, welly throwing and community games athletics.
A roving magician kept the crowds entertained all day.

The main stage saw lots of local talent entertaining everyone. Well known local musician Vincent Vaughan was the first act up on stage followed by the hugely talented Philip Lynch Jr. Ned Vaughan and his band, Shane Fogarty, Daragh Vincent & band, Magic Show, Ryan Cummins Irish Dancing, Lindas Kids choir and the ever popular Mad Patsy closed out the evening with special guest Toddy McNamara giving a rousing rendition of The Yellow JCB, bringing those of us of a certain age back to our youth when Toddy entertained us all most weekends in The Stack of Barley with his party piece.

Toddy was the roving MC for the day and I’m sure everyone there would agree that he done a fantastic job.
The Strongest Village tug-of-war was a fiercely contested competition. Neighbouring parishes Ballingarry and Killenaule with two teams from Mullinahone all competing for the coveted title. Killenaule were victorious on the day.

A huge word of thanks must go to Tracy Curran and Claire Brett and their army of volunteers. With their vision and planning “ The Little Village Festival” proved to be a hugely, successful, fantastic well run event. It brought the community together on a glorious May Bank Holiday Sunday and we can’t wait to see what next year’s event will bring.
