Tipperary Ladies Football has confirmed that David Power will take charge of the county’s senior ladies footballers, following his ratification at Monday night’s County Board meeting.
Power is best known for his spell as Tipperary senior men’s football manager from 2020 to 2023, a period that delivered some of the most memorable moments in recent county history. In his first season, he guided Tipp to a famous Munster Senior Football Championship victory — their first provincial title in 85 years — after defeating Cork in Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
That breakthrough triumph was followed by further progress in the National Football League, with Tipp earning promotion from Division 4 in 2022.
Despite challenges with injuries and player availability in later campaigns, Power won widespread respect for his leadership and for giving opportunities to emerging players.
Before taking on the senior role, he had already made his mark at underage level. He managed the minors to All-Ireland glory in 2011, a success that included back-to-back Munster titles in 2011 and 2012. His underage sides also lifted provincial titles at U16 and U17 level.
Speaking after his appointment, Power said he was honoured to step into the ladies football role. “It is a great honour to be appointed as manager of the Tipperary Senior Ladies Football Team. Tipperary has always been close to my heart, and I have huge admiration for the talent and dedication within this group of players. I’m really looking forward to working with them and preparing for the challenges ahead.”
County Board chairperson Damian Johnston described the appointment as a major boost for the senior ladies panel.
“David’s proven track record, both at inter-county and club level, speaks for itself. His leadership qualities, passion for the game, and commitment to player development make him an ideal fit for this role. We believe he will inspire our senior team and ensure they reach their full potential.”
Preparations are already underway as Tipperary begin planning for the 2026 season under their new manager.
