The CAO Points Waiver Scheme for Elite Sportspersons helps skilled athletes who want to attend university while continuing to play their sport.
Technological University of the Shannon (TUS) is set to roll out its CAO points waiver scheme across every campus, opening new doors for aspiring students.
The scheme began as a pilot in Athlone, rewarding students who excelled in both sport and academics with up to 50 points off selected courses.
TUS recognizes the hard work required to participate in top-level sports.

Eligible students can have up to 50 points deducted from the CAO points required for certain full-time courses at TUS. Each year, 25 spots are awarded to students who have done very well in sports and demonstrate they can balance sports and schoolwork.
The scheme is open to CAO applicants who have applied to TUS, meet the basic entry requirements for their chosen course, and can demonstrate that they participate in top-level sport. Applications are checked through a set process. Popular courses may need an interview.
From September, students at Thurles, Clonmel, Moylish, Coonagh, Ennis, and Clare Street can benefit from the scheme, which will now cover all undergraduate programmes.
