NEWS: Council express clear frustration with water disruptions in parts of Tipperary town

The council questioned why water was cut off at night, what steps were being taken to fix it, and why details on timing and affected areas were missing from the Uisce Éireann website.

Local councillors at the monthly Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel MD meeting dismissed Uisce Éireann’s explanation for the nighttime water disruptions in parts of Tipperary town, expressing clear frustration with the utility’s response.

The council questioned why water was cut off at night, what steps were being taken to fix it, and why details on timing and affected areas were missing from the Uisce Éireann website.

At the Municipal District meeting, Councillors Anne Maire Ryan and John O’Heney disputed Uisce Éireann’s claim that only water pressure was reduced, stating many residents faced complete shutoffs. They cited numerous public complaints and examples of locals hiring plumbers to repair shower damage from ongoing water issues. The councillors called for a thorough, transparent response from Uisce Éireann.

Several councillors expressed dissatisfaction with Uisce Éireann’s performance, especially regarding information sharing. They also referenced the Boil Water Notice affecting those using water from the Ironmills Water Treatment Plant during upgrades.

The Cathaoirleach, Councillor Roger Kennedy, emphasized that Uisce Éireann, rather than Tipperary County Council, is responsible for water supply and wastewater services.
