New Tipperary Camogie manager James Heffernan named a strong 36-player panel ahead of the start of the 2026 Very National Camogie League which commences this coming Saturday against Antrim.
The journey north will be an arduous one for the team in this opener, with an improving Antrim side a daunting prospect with the journey taken into account, but there is renewed vigour and excitement with a new era beginning under Clonoulty Rossmore’s James Heffernan.
A man who has had plenty of recent success at club level with his local club, he has taken the reins from Denis Kelly after a prolonged and successful stint in charge, despite some ‘nearly’ moments in All-Ireland semi-finals during his tenure.
The league success in 2024 was a big moment for this group of players, and the hope at the time was that the success would break the glass ceiling for them and push them toward challenging for an All-Ireland title.
Alas, disappointing losses in semi-finals have been the net result, and the goal for Heffernan and his new look management team will be to build toward the ultimate goal of lifting the O’Duffy Cup.
His panel has a nice blend of youth and experience, with the standout inclusion definitely coming in the form of Caoimhe Stakelum, who has been tearing up trees at underage level in recent years, and played a big part in helping Thurles Sarsfields to a first county senior title in 2025.
Tipp’s first game takes place at Robert Emmets GAC ground on Saturday, February 14 at 2pm with Cork, Galway, Kilkenny, and Waterford also in the group for 2026.
