Marie Devitt from Rosegreen has been named the 2026 Cashel Person of the Year at a ceremony on Thursday evening last.
Devitt became the 41st recipient of the Cashel Lions Club Person of the Year award at a special presentation night held in Halla na Féile.
The event was described as a wonderful celebration of everything Devitt represents within the local community, with a warm and proud atmosphere throughout the evening as people gathered to recognise her contribution.
A pillar of the community in Rosegreen and the wider Cashel area, the award recognises Devitt’s tireless work across a number of organisations that play an important role locally.
These include the Rosegreen Development Association, Rosegreen Tidy Towns, Rosegreen National School, Cashel Day Care and Centre Cahir Golf Club.
During the evening, those who nominated Devitt and people who work alongside her spoke about her dedication, kindness and quiet leadership. Speaker after speaker highlighted the impact she has had through her involvement in community activities.
She was described as “the someone” – the person who steps forward, gets things done without being asked and is always there when people are looking for someone to help.
Devitt accepted the award with humility and was visibly touched by the tributes paid to her on the night.
The Cashel Person of the Year award has now been presented on 41 occasions, recognising individuals who have made a significant contribution to community life in the area.
The presentation night concluded with congratulations for Devitt and recognition of her commitment to the Rosegreen and Cashel communities.
