Well-known Tipperary man the first client of refurbished clinic rooms

William Cahill, who is well known locally from his many years managing the shop at the Tipperary University Hospital, was last week welcomed as the very first client of the newly developed clinic rooms at St Paul’s in Clonmel. 

He was welcomed by cardiovascular clinical nurse specialist Ashling Moloney, alongside Kate O’Connor, the operational team lead for South Tipperary Chronic Disease Community Specialist Services.

He was the first patient to be seen at the HSE’s Chronic Disease Community Specialist Services in the town, which is located in St Paul’s Unit on the HSE’s Western Road campus. The clinic rooms were created through extensive renovations of the former St Paul’s Ward on the Clonmel campus, and the refurbished facility will be providing care for people living with Type 2 diabetes, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), asthma and heart conditions.

The Le Cáirde Alzheimer’s Day Care Centre (operated by Alzheimer’s Ireland and funded by the HSE) continues to operate in the same building.

Welcoming the opening of the clinic rooms, Tara Hunt, general manager of Primary Care for the area, said the seven modernised clinic rooms were “a wonderful boost for patients, their families and our colleagues in the HSE locally to have this specially adapted, modern facility.

Ms O’Connor, meanwhile, reminded the public that outreach clinics and pulmonary rehab will continue in Cahir, Carrick‑on‑Suir, Cashel and Tipperary Town. 

“We look forward to the enhanced teamwork that this new facility in Clonmel will support, providing an excellent additional resource for delivering specialist care to people living with Type 2 diabetes, COPD, asthma and heart conditions.”
