Animal welfare protest postponed in Tipperary

The protest, organised in response to some high-profile animal abuse cases highlighted locally, has had to be moved to another day

Animal welfare protest postponed in Tipperary

A horse being urged on in a sulky had a horrific death, after colliding with a car in Clonmel at the end of March.

A protest that was to be held tomorrow for animal welfare and road safety, has had to be postponed as a result of the ongoing fuel crisis, and the escalation of road blockages involving hauliers, farmers, and others.

Cllr Michael Brennan said that he and Cllr Liam Browne, along with My Lovely Horse Rescue, had made the "difficult but responsible decision to postpone our peaceful walk in protest in Clonmel, originally scheduled for Saturday, 11 April".

"The growing public support and momentum for this cause have been deeply encouraging. However, given the current national situation, we believe it is only right to delay our event to ensure public safety, accessibility, and respect for all involved.
"Our protest aims to highlight the urgent issues of animal welfare and road safety, particularly concerning the illegal use of sulkies on public roads. These matters remain of utmost importance, and we will continue to advocate for meaningful change.
We thank everyone for their support, understanding, and messages of encouragement. A new date for the peaceful walk will be announced soon".
