Sr Patricia Wall has been honoured by being nominated for the "Community Hero" award which is part of the inaugural Charity Impact Awards, a lifetime achievement award presented by Volunteer Ireland and The Wheel.

The Wheel, Ireland’s national association of community, voluntary and charitable organisations, has developed the Charity Impact Awards to promote best practice and increase awareness of the significance and role of the nonprofit sector in Irish society.

Since 1996 Sr Patricia Wall has dedicated her life to volunteering and community work within the area of Slieveardagh. She works with the three main projects in this area (Slieveardagh Rural Development Centre in Killenaule, Ballingarry CITE and Brightsparks Childcare) and she was involved in the establishment, setting up and running of all three. She is on the Board of them all.

She is a strong advocate to help organisations realise their ambitions, such as helping the local Playground committee to get funding and land to build the local playground. She helped develop a historical corner in the village of Ballingarry, turning a derelict site into a beautiful tourist attraction and historical monument.

According to the online profile for her award nomination, “Sr Patricia goes above and beyond the call of duty to secure funding for projects in the area, helping community groups with paper work and applications and because of this, many projects have been developed.”

Sr Patricia came to Ballingarry as Principal of the Presentation Secondary School and on her retirement immersed herself completely in the needs of the community of Ballingarry.

Also known as The Flying Nun, Sr Patricia jumped out of a plane (aged 75!) to raise much needed funds AWARE – a charity close to her heart. Now 80 years old, she still volunteers every day of the week giving back to as many groups as she can in the local community.

You can vote for Sr Patricia only once per device. Voting closes at 5pm on 6 December 2017.

The winner will be announced at the inaugural Charity Impact Awards at CHQ in Dublin on the evening of 13 December.
This is an online public vote to decide the winner, so please help make Sr Patricia the winner of the award by going to then to bottom of webpage to Shortlist section and vote for Sr Patricia.
