Tipperary Camogie Development Update by Grainne O’Leary (Development Officer):
As the curtain comes down on the development calendar for 2022, we were blown away by the standard of our games this year.
The skill level has increased, which has been a joy to watch. Seeing young girls of 11 years of age score points from thirty yards. At a recent u 11 game the score was 1-9 to 1-7 which is phenomenal scoring from girls so young.
This is testament to the huge work going on in our clubs at underage. In recent weeks we have been running our U11 and U13 leagues.
With 32 teams in each league a total of 270 games have been played in the two age groups every weekend over the past eight weeks.
U13 Winners Tier 1 Boherlahan Dualla Tier 2 Holy cross Ballycahill Tier 3 Silvermines Tier 4 Rockwell Rovers Tier 5 Burgess Duharra.
U11 Finalists - as all u 11 girls in the finals received a medal. Prize was getting to the final in this development group.
Winners Runners up: Tier 1 Thurles Sars Boherlahan Dualla
Tier 2: Mullinahone Templemore
Tier 3: Rockwell Rovers Ballybacon/Grange
Tier 4: Kildangan St Marys.
A lot of our finals went to extra time, and most were only won by a single score. It is safe to say over the past few weeks we have enjoyed a feast of camogie, in front of large crowds supporting our young girls.
The future is strong for camogie in Tipperary, with such skill and numbers playing our game. We look forward with bated breath to see what 2023 brings.
