Tipperary hotel announces temporary closure following passing of colleague

Baileys Hotel Cashel has announced that it will remain closed this Thursday, January 15, until 5pm.

The decision behind the temporary closure comes following the passing of staff member Tom O'Shea, who passed away on Monday, January 12.

In a statement posted on social media by the hotel they said: "As unbelievable as it seems to us, as a mark of respect for our dear departed colleague Tom, Baileys Hotel, Restaurant & Cellar Bar will be closed on Thursday 15th January 2026 until 5pm.

"Ar dheis Dé go raibh a Anam Dílis."

Tom passed away on January 12, 2026, peacefully at home after a short illness surrounded by his loving family.

Tom is pre-deceased by his mother Teresa.

He is deeply regretted and sadly missed by his heartbroken partner Shelly, sons Adam and Neil, his father Tom, sisters Paula and Marie, brother Patrick, brothers in law Michael and Peter, sister in law Mary, uncles, aunts, Shelly's brothers and sisters John,Tommy, Noelle and Marie, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, extended family and a wide circle of friends.

Tom will lay in repose at Hayes’ Funeral Chapel, Clonoulty this Wednesday, January 14 from 5pm to 7pm.

The funeral will arrive at the Church of St John the Baptist, Clonoulty on Thursday, January 15, for Requiem Mass at 11:30am followed by burial in the local cemetery.

Bailey's posted a tribute to Tom on the day of his passing, saying: "Rest in peace old friend. Your Baileys family are heartbroken. Our sympathies to Shelly, Adam & Neil, Tom Sr & all the family."
