The family of the late Dillon Quirke gave an incredibly touching and intimate interview last weekend as they prepare to launch the 'Dillon Quirke Foundation' in memory of the former Tipperary hurling star after he passed away suddenly last August.
Speaking to the Irish Independent last weekend, Dillon's parents Dan and Hazel, along with his two sisters Kellie and Shannon sat down to recall the events of that faithful day in Semple Stadium, and how they have coped with his loss in the meantime.
The family are launching the Dillon Quirke Foundation, so there will be a fundraiser when Tipperary play Kilkenny on Sunday, February 19 in the National Hurling League, with all proceeds going towards screening all GAA players from the age of 12 in every club in the country.
“If we can save one life it would make it for us,” said Dillon's father Dan in the interview.
The target of the foundation is a whopping €1 million with the target to test players across the country, but also raise awareness of SADS (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome) which claims over 100 lives in Ireland every year.
