Debate over new speed limit legislation coming into law in November

Councillors discussed the new legislation during a council meeting in Nenagh on Monday, October 13th
The Road Traffic Act 2024 will be introduced sometime in November of this year and it will mean that all roads will have speed limits lowered across the country.
At this weeks council meeting in Nenagh councillors brought forward a motion for the council to ensure that any new speed limits not be universal around the county and instead be applied only in areas deemed necessary.
Councillor Máirín McGrath questioned the lack of input the councillors had on this review that was undertaken by the government and department of transport.
She also said that constituents may wonder why money is being spent on new signage when roads need to be fixed.
“I think we should have a workshop on this sooner,” she said.
Councillor Roger Kennedy said that with phase one to be rolled out next month, he worried that they will not have time to discuss the issue further.
Many councillors suggested a separate meeting before November’s County Council meeting to discuss this issue further.
