Creeslough community hub allocated 12 million euro

More than 12 million euro in Government funding has been given to a new community hub in Creeslough, Co Donegal.

The Department of Rural and Community Development said the project will create a new central hub for community life that will “support the renewal and regeneration of Creeslough”.

It said it will be “transformative for the community and serve as a catalyst for the regeneration of the region”.

In October 2022 four men, three women and three young people, aged between five and 59, died in an explosion at a service station.

The new centre will replace an already-operating community hub on Main Street in the village.

The funding is part of 164 million euro allocated to 30 regeneration projects around the country.

The investment is being provided under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) with a particular emphasis on the revitalisation of rural town centres.

Many of the projects have a focus on combating vacancy and dereliction.

Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys said: “This is a truly transformative level of funding that will make a real and lasting difference in rural communities throughout Ireland.”
