Gardaí are urging motorists to slow down following an increase in speeding detections including in parts of the west of Ireland.
A driver of a van who was caught travelling 50km/h above the speed limit was one of six motorists detected speeding by a garda motorcyclist all in the same hour in Galway city Tuesday afternoon.
As of this Wednesday, October 16, 140 people have been killed on Irish roads this year.
In a post on social media highlighting the detections in Galway gardaí said: "The driver of this van clocked travelling 50km/h above the speed limit was one of six detected speeding by a Garda Motorcyclist during the same hour in Galway City this afternoon."

According to a photograph accompanying the Facebook post, the driver was caught travelling at 150km/h in 100km zone.
The post, which was been seen by thousands of people across Facebook and Twitter/X has left members of the public outraged by the rate of speed the driver was travelling at with one person commenting: "Crazy speed in a van"
Another said: "Keep on checking and do even more controls. It seems to be the only way how people learn to drive at the right speed and reduce risk on our roads."
