A newly launched mental health clinic in Nenagh has been left reeling after a targeted and destructive break-in occurred just hours before it was due to welcome its very first in-person patient.

Private Therapy Clinic, an established UK-based mental health provider, had just opened its doors in Nenagh to offer affordable private psychological care for the local community.

However, in a shocking turn of events, their newly fitted premises were vandalised in the early hours of the morning on Wednesday, May 8.

The first therapist on-site arrived early to prepare for her 10am appointment, only to discover a leak in the office.

At first, it was assumed that a pipe under the sink had burst. But on closer inspection, it became clear that something far more sinister had taken place.

The lock on the back door had been expertly removed and found discarded on the floor inside.

The intruders caused substantial damage: every single window in the building had been smashed, and every mirror destroyed.

Water gushed from a deliberately damaged pipe beneath the sink, flooding all four consultation rooms and seeping into the reception area.

Yet, curiously, the most expensive furnishings were left untouched.

Clinic founder and Nenagh native Dr Becky Spelman said:

"We’re heartbroken, not just for the physical damage, but because we’ve put so much love and effort into creating a peaceful space to help people. This was supposed to be a fresh start for the community."

Despite the damage, the team is determined to move forward. Repairs are already underway,  and the clinic expects to be back up and running within days.

"We won’t let this stop us. This space was created to bring healing to people who need it most,
and that mission remains unchanged."
