Lack of waste water treatment plants to blame for low water quality in Tipperary

Councillor McGrath raised concerns over a lack of waste water treatment plants

Councillor Máirín McGrath spoke today at the Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel municipal district meeting about the need for more waste water treatment plants in the county. 

She particularly expressed concerns in regards to the Newcastle area of Tipperary, where she said "A treatment plant would solve a of the water quality issues". 

She also called for public bodies to be held accountable for their shortcomings in regards to a decline in water quality in the county. 

"Public bodies need to be highlighted for their lack of action but farmers are blamed instead". 

A statistic given by the Local Authorities Water Programme (LAWPRO) says that just 33% of water quality levels in Tipperary are satisfactory.
