Tom O'Dwyer will be remembered for his athletic skill

Rest in Peace

This week we mourn the passing of Tom O’Dwyer, Rathdermot, who lined out with Galtee Rovers with distinction at a time when West titles were hard to come by.

Tom played on the Galtee/ Golden combination known as Suir Rovers who bridged an eight year gap with a West minor football title in 1961.

Tom’s skill and athleticism meant he quickly became part of our senior football team who went on to defeat Rockwell Rovers in the West final of 1962 and this team were unlucky to lose out to eventual champions, Ardfinnan, in the county senior football semi-final.

Almost a decade later Tom O’Dwyer proved he was equally at home with a sliotar in his hand when he was part of the junior hurling squad who won three West titles in ’69, ‘71 and ’73.

Sympathies to Tom’s wife Patricia, his sons Alan and Michael and the extended O’Dwyer family.
