A wonderful evening of hospitality, talent, entertainment and good food was enjoyed by all those present at the annual Canon Hayes Sports Awards Banquet held in Ballykisteen Hotel on Saturday night.

Well done to Kitty England, Roscrea who was among the nominees honoured for the Volunteer in Sport Award sponsored by Tipperary Sports Partnership. Kitty was accompanied by family members and various members of Co Tipperary Community Games committee were present to lend their support including President Breda Christie, Asst Treasurer Eleanor McCahill, Asst Treasurer, PRO, Sandra O’Dwyer, Asst Sec., Peggy Colville. There were also several former games competitors present in other roles and parents of former competitors including Martin O’Loughlin, team manager of Cycle Ireland. His son Michael O’Loughlin, now a professional cyclist with several major titles under his belt gave us numerous hours of enjoyment watching in action winning gold medals in AIT. There were many trips down memory lane during the evening.

Winner of the local award Amee Leigh Murphy Crowe, Tipperary Town, Ireland Womens Sevens Rugby player of the year 2017 and top try scorer for Ireland on the World Series paid tribute to Breeda Christie starting that her skills were due to Breda's training when she was a member of Tipperary Athletic Club.

Sean Tobin, Clonmel winner of the County award is Ireland’s youngest ever sub four minute miler. Sean who represented Ireland in the European Cross Country on Sunday, was also a former competitor and youth member along with his siblings Anthony and Laura.

Several of Tipperary Ladies Intermediate Football Team, winners of the Team County Award also tasted success with community games. Indeed most of those involved used community games as a stepping stone. Congratulations to Martin Quinn on doing a super job as M C and for his hard work organising this prestigious event now in it’s 22nd year. Well done to all.
