Clonmel athlete Andrew Duncan has scooped a gold medal at the World Transplant Games in Durban, South Africa.
Fifteen-year-old Andrew, underwent a kidney transplant just last year, receiving the organ from his donor father Malcolm. Andrew is competing in the 15-17 age category in the World Games which take place until August 4, and secured a gold medal for squash.
Hopes are high for further success when he competes in tennis, badminton and table tennis events over the coming days. Speaking about his win Andrew said he was very lucky.
“It was a great experience and the level of talent in the competition was very high. I feel lucky to have come out with a gold. It’s great to be able to represent Ireland and I have received great support from the team, my family as well as Squash Ireland.”
Transplant Team Ireland is enjoying great success at the 19th World Transplant Games. The team has won three gold and three silver and one bronze medal.
