Cahir 1-14 Moyle Rovers 1-13

On Sunday morning last Cahir took on Moyle Rovers in the fifth round of the South Intermediate Hurling Championship, sponsored by Martins Fruit and Veg.  Cahir had the wind at their backs in the first half but Rovers made a late rally to leave just two points between the sides at the break.  Martin Dunne’s goal early in the second half gave Moyle Rovers the lift they needed to go on and take the lead. But Cahir responded well and a goal from Benny Hickey and two further points gave them the victory. Benny Hickey after 50 seconds opened the scoring with a point for Cahir before team-mates Derek Davis, Liam Howard and Edmond Meehan added three more points. Moyle Rovers midfielder Sean Keating opened their scoring with a point in the 11th minute. Benny Hickey quickly replied with a point for Cahir. Ciaran Lorigan was next to score a point for Rovers. Sean Keating added a third point But Derek Davis replied with a point from a free.  Edmond Meehan added a further point to Cahir’s tally.  Sean Carey and Denis McGrath scored three more points for Rovers while Cahir finished the half with a point from Derek Davis from a free to give them a 0-8 to 0-6 lead at the break.

Derek Davis opened Cahir’s scoring for the second half with a point from a free.  Daire O’Brien added a second point for Cahir. Rovers hit back and Martin Dunne found the net. Sean Carey pointed from a free while Sean Keating scored a fantastic point from around 85 yards to put them ahead for the first time.  Sean Carey quickly added another point. Derek Davis replied with yet another point from a free before Sean Carey and Ciaran Lorigan pointed for Moyle Rovers.

Derek Davis converted another free for Cahir before Benny Hickey made a run straight through the Moyle Rovers defence in the 23rd minute to get the goal they needed to restore their lead. Ronan Desmond replied with a point for Moyle Rovers to leave the sides level and Sean Carey added another point to put Rovers in the lead with a minute left on the clock.

However a misguided puck out from the Rovers goalie presented Cahir with the opportunity to equalise, as Eric Flannery gladly took  his point.  Then Benny Hickey stepped up to score the winning point.
