Once again, the TSDL has shown it is one of the leading amateur football leagues in the country when it provided two of the creative players that led Munster FA to a win in the FAI Amateur inter provincials in Sligo at the weekend.

Jimmy Carr and Ed O’Dwyer, who play their club football in Tipperary Town with St Michael’s both had large parts to play in the success, with both scoring over the weekend and the experienced Carr captaining the side.

In a three-game round robin competition, Munster opened with a win against the Ulster FA on a 5-1 scoreline. Jimmy Carr managed to get his name on the scoresheet, along with two assists, as he terrorised the Ulster players in the same way he regularly does around the pitches in the TSDL.

The players then moved on to a tougher battle against the home association of Connacht but once again emerged victorious, this time by 3-1 with the other Saint, Ed O’Dwyer amongst the goals.

That set the Munster team up for a winner-takes-all final game against Leinster, with both sides having two wins in their opening two games. And the southerners emerged as champions after an incredibly tight game that really could have gone either way. The tie was decided when Cian Murphy got on the end of an Eoin Murphy free kick four minutes from time, leading to wild celebrations.

The weekend success sees the MFA now go on to represent Ireland in the UEFA Regions Cup later this year.

Huge credit must go to Jason Purcell and his backroom team and the squad for their incredible commitment these last eight weeks. That staff also included one more St Michael’s connection, with Pearse Foley part of the Munster backroom team.
