Fr Sheehy's lauded in Croke Park

Tipperary has one of first top GAA healthy clubs!

Congratulations to Liam Fleming and the Fr Sheehy's Club who were recognised as one of the first official healthy G.A.A. clubs in the country at a reception in Croke Park.

Over the last 18 months the club has spread its influence throughout the community and beyond by developing different initiatives that will lead our community to be a healthier place to live.

Four different initiatives were worked on. Firstly, the club’s grounds are now a completely smoke free zone, the only sports club in Tipperary to be completely smoke free!

The Couch 2 Mountain Top walking program was a huge success and has been followed on with more walking programs from Siul Eile. Over 700 people have now participated in one of these programs, who between them have walked almost 40,000kms.

The Club also organised a bus for the more senior members of the community to Croke Park that involved a tour of Croke Park grounds, dressing rooms, and museum. Followed by lunch and then taking in two inter county games.

The Club also organised an evening with former governor of Mountjoy John Lonergan in their clubhouse on how to improve mental fitness which was free and well supported by the whole community. The healthy Club project was to show that the GAA does so much more for the community than just provide games for the youth of the community. Our involvement in this project proved this in spades.

Phase 3 will commence in 2018 with healthier initiatives, making our club and community a healthier and happier place to thrive.

Next weeks walks in the Suil Eile Project are - Monday 6th 7.30pm: Ardfinnan hall (6.5km); Tuesday 7th 7.30pm: Clonmel, Ard na Gaoithe (4.5km); Tuesday 7th 7.30pm: Ballylooby (6km); Wednesday 8th 7.30pm: Ardfinnan hall (6.5km); Thursday 9th : 7.30pm: Clonmel, LIT (6km); Thursday 9th 7.30pm : Ballylooby (8km); Sunday 12th 10am: Goatenbridge, Liam Lynch loop (12km)
