Templemore Park Run 73 - the movement continues

Templemore Park Run

Templemore Fit4Life: Some well known local faces enjoying a previous 'Track and Trail Run'.

The movement continues, newcomers always welcome! In terms of milestones the number 73 is pretty innocuous, coming between the great seven O (70) and the quarter century (75). There was nothing innocuous about Park Run 73 in Templemore on Saturday 16th June. It was known that the 8th placed person would be the 4,000th to complete the Run and ring up the magical 20,000th kilometre. There was a possibility of Larry Stapleton completing his 50th, fitness permitting. All three came together in a bizarre set of circumstances with Larry achieving his 50th and finishing in 8th place to clock up the magic numbers. A great supporter of the Run since the start Larry is the man responsible for the signage on the course each week to ensure newcomers do not go astray. He went a step further on Saturday by enlisting the help of his father, the legendary Patsy, to collect the signs after the Run. Welcome on board Patsy and great to see you out and about at such an early hour !!!
Before the off, Director John Guilfoyle presented Larry with his certificate to mark the milestone. Then it was down to business and the field of 45 were away. Peter Madden, an athlete of some repute, was first back in a fine time of 19.20 just before Seamus Brennan who completed his journey in 19.24. JP McSherry, in a PB of 20.08, Liam Mc Donagh 20.30 and newcomer Chris Stanhope 21.32 were next in line with quality performances.
Eileen Mc Cullagh was leading lady in 21.08, just outside her PB, with Laura Bradish 25.43 and Maureen Connolly 28.39 next in line. Special mention of junior athletes Thomas Bergin (Jnr), Robert Crampton and Zane Kramina for their presence and performances. On a pleasant, cool morning there were 5 newcomers with just 4 PB's recorded. Well done to all.
REMEMBER, Park Run has no podium or medals for participants. Participation is voluntary and free to all with competition totally against oneself and the dreaded clock. As we enter the holiday season we encourage people to spread the word to visitors in the locality and if you are away yourself remember to check out the nearest Park Run. We are all part of the same movement.
