A Cork man has been fined for abusing rail staff at Thurles District Court.
Darren Browne (42) of Cashel Leap, Cork pleaded guilty to threatening and abusive behaviour and public intoxication.
Sgt Tom Hanrahan of Thurles Garda Station told the court that on the day of the incident, gardai responded to a report at the station of a highly intoxicated male verbally abusing staff.
The arresting garda noted the defendant's speech was slurred and deemed him a danger to himself or others before arresting him and taking him to Thurles Garda Station.
Sgt Hanrahan told the court the defendant has 12 previous convictions, including three under the Public Order Act.
The solicitor acting for the defendant said his client was a recovering alcoholic and had relapsed on the day of the incident.
He said his client had been in residential treatment some time ago and is currently engaging with services on an outpatient basis.
“He regrets what he did, Judge,” said the solicitor.
Judge Willian Aylmer convicted Mr Browne on the fined him €150, giving him three months to pay.
