Thurles school pay tribute to former teacher and 'a thorough gentleman' on his passing

It was with great sadness that the Ursuline learned of the sudden passing of former teacher and colleague Mr David Morris.

David taught Business Studies and Computers, for a long number of years, retiring in 2012.

He was a thorough gentleman, always with a kind word for everyone.

He looked out for his colleagues, especially those at the beginning of their careers.

He had a warm wit, lots of wonderfully entertaining anecdotes and a lively, curious mind.

David was to the forefront of innovation with the establishment of the Ursuline’s first Computer Room, the introduction of computer studies into the school curriculum, and he loved learning new software tricks, which he could then show his students.

At Christmas, he got involved in festive games and was no stranger to the stage, with everyone fondly remembering his unique rendition of Fairy-tale of New York.

He mentored the Ursuline Concern Debating teams for many years, and brought the 1995 team to All-Ireland success.

Such was his commitment to the Ursuline and his passion for debating that he came to support the 2024 team in their Concern quarter-final in Horse and Jockey just as recently as April.

He was thrilled with their success on the night and gave the girls and Ms Downey much-appreciated tips to help them on the road to the final.

The Management and Staff of the Ursuline offer condolences to David’s wife Rose, his children Paula and Rónán and his many family and friends who will miss him dearly.
