Dan Quirke bestowed with deserved honour for charitable work by Tipperary Association

Dan Quirke has been rewarded for his incredible charitable endeavours by the Tipperary Association of Dublin, as the father of the late Tipperary hurler Dillon, was inducted into the Hall of Fame, it was announced earlier this week.

Dan is a well known member of Clonoulty Rossmore GAA club, and he was a highly successful businessman until he sold the family business in 2022.

He was also a successful hurler and footballer. He won All-Ireland and County honours in hurling and represented Tipperary at football.

However, it is as the leader of the Dillon Quirke Foundation, a charity established by Dan and his family after the tragic death of their son Dillon from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome that Dan is best known these days, and he has been recognised for his incredible work to help prevent tragedies like Dillon’s happening to others.

The charity was set up to enable cardiac screening for young people involved in sports. It is estimated that approximately 100 deaths per year are a result of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

The cardiac screening conducted by the Foundation has the potential to save many of these lives by providing early warning of risk factors

The Foundation is seen as an integral part of advancing cardiovascular health care within communities and especially among younger participants in sport. It was officially launched in April this year. As of September this year 210 clubs have been screened

Speaking about Dan’s contribution to Tipperary and countless families around the country, a Tipperary Association of Dublin statement read, “For his foresight generosity, and commitment, to turning an enormous family tragedy into an extremely beneficial national healthcare initiative and for his resilience in vigorously promoting it, Dan Quirke is a worthy inductee into the Tipperary Association Dublin Hall of Fame.”

The awards ceremony will take place in the Louis Fitzgerald Hotel, Newlands Cross, Dublin on Saturday 23 November 2024.
