Faulty heating system in Tipperary estate described as 'unmitigated disaster'

An air-to-water heating system which has been added to several homes in Tipperary has been described as an “unmitigated disaster” by a local Councillor.

The issue was raised during the recent meeting of the Thurles Municipal District of the Tipperary County Council by Cllr Jim Ryan.

The system has been fitted to homes in the Tara Drive estate in Gortnahoe, and have been known to cause a number of issues in recent years.

Cllr Ryan said during the meeting that he had been asked to raise the issue once again, following complaints by residents over the matter, as they were concerned over being left without heating heading into the winter months.

Cllr Ryan said that a number of the systems in the estate are currently not working, pointing out in one particular instance that plumbers had been called to one house three times in a two week period, with the system still not fully functioning.

Cllr Ryan was told that the issue was something that the Council was aware of, and that they knew action would need to be taken to sort out the matter.

The district engineer said that a meeting was scheduled to take place between the engineers and the housing section.

They added, however, that it would be unlikely for any work to be undertaken over the issue in 2025.
