Thurles Library, in collaboration with Down Syndrome Tipperary–Meitheal 21, is proud to host ReCreate: Art for ALL, an inclusive arts project that celebrates creativity, ability, and community.
Down Syndrome Tipperary members transform recycled materials into art exploring nature, life, and self-expression.
The project offered members of all ages with Down syndrome the chance to explore different art forms in a supportive environment.
Through a series of workshops, participants have been encouraged to express themselves, develop new skills, and share their unique artistic perspectives.
The culmination of this work has been running from September 16, and will run up until October 2 2025 in Thurles Library at The Source.
The exhibition showcases an array of artwork created by the members, celebrating both their talent and the powerful role of the arts in fostering inclusion.
A distinctive feature of the project is its commitment to sustainability.
All of the artwork has been created using recycled materials, with a particular focus on themes of nature, life, and self-expression.
This approach not only sparks creativity but also highlights the importance of reimagining everyday materials in meaningful and artistic ways.
This project builds on the ongoing work of Down Syndrome Tipperary–Meitheal 21 in creating meaningful opportunities for its members.
Special thanks to Thurles Library for their encouragement and steadfast support throughout the Creative Ireland funding application process.

Their partnership has ensured that members can showcase their abilities and creativity in such a public and celebratory way.
Special thanks also to our local artists Anna Dwan and PJ O’Connell, Tipperary County Council, Creative Ireland and of course all the wonderful artists — the members of Down Syndrome Tipperary — whose creativity and dedication have brought ReCreate: Art for ALL to life.
Áine Knightly, Programme Facilitator with Meitheal 21, who organised the programme said: “We are so proud of all our members, whose creativity and imagination have brought this exhibition to life. Each piece tells its own story, and together they show just how powerful self-expression can be. We hope this exhibition is only the beginning of our artistic adventures, with many more opportunities ahead to showcase the incredible talents of our members.”
