BREAKING: Gardaí investing assault at Palestine support march in Tipperary

Gardaí are currently investing an assault which took place in Thurles on Thursday, September 18.

The incident took place during one of Driochead's weekly Palestine support vigils held in Liberty Square.

In a statement issued by Droichead, they said: "On Thursday, 18 September 2025, during our 41st weekly peaceful vigil in support of Palestine at Liberty Square, Thurles, a deeply concerning incident occurred. A member of our group was struck in the face by a bottle thrown from a passing car. This assault has been reported to the Gardaí and will be fully followed up.

"We condemn this cowardly act of violence in the strongest possible terms. Such behaviour has no place in our town, our community, or our society.

"Our vigils are peaceful gatherings, rooted in compassion, solidarity, and the pursuit of justice. To attack one of us is an attack on all of us, and it only strengthens our resolve.

"We will not be intimidated. We will not be silenced. We stand for humanity. We stand with Palestine."

Gardaí confirmed their investigation in a statement, saying: "

Gardaí received a report of an incident of alleged assault that occurred in the Liberty Square area of Thurles, Co. Tipperary on Thursday 18th September 2025 at approximately 7:45pm.

"Investigations are ongoing."
