This year Refresh Thurles Tidy Towns continued with the very successful “Best Presented Shopfront Competition”.
This initiative has been running for the last eight years and an independent judge observes all shop fronts in the town and provides useful and constructive feedback on how we can improve the appearance of our town. Every year one business is awarded with the Kathleen Wright Perpetual Trophy to recognise their efforts to improve the external appearance of their property.

Kathleen Wright, a former supervisor with Thurles Municipal District Council made a big contribution to the appearance of our town and Kathleen’s contribution to our town is remembered through this competition each year.
Tommy Barrett of Thurles Tidy Towns outlines the success of this competition: “We are delighted to be in a position to run this competition again this year and we thank the judge for the efforts made in compiling some very useful feedback that is helpful for shop owners, the local council and The Thurles Tidy Towns Committee. I wish to congratulate this year’s winner Moran’s Menswear who are very deserving winners”
Judges said: “Refresh Thurles is a voluntary group that has gone from strength to strength and who are constantly encouraging the community to enhance the local area and promote community spirit within the town. Entrance roads to the town are all well maintained and undoubtedly well kept by residents and local bodies. The welcome signs, benches, flower beds ,borders and of course the pollinator areas add to the aesthetics of the town.
“I happened to meet Jack Gleeson bright and early one morning in Croke Street with his inventive watering cart, pottering along the path looking after the fabulous hanging baskets. Well done to all involved who looked after and worked hard keeping the plants in full bloom over the warm summer months.
“Arriving into the square this summer the first observation is undoubtedly the strong dominant colour of Blue and Gold. The square is filled with bunting and flags hanging from windows of business premises, offices and homes. Celebrating Tipperary’s victory over Cork and how fitting to have our county colours so visible in the birthplace of the GAA.

“Litter control is at a very high standard and on that note a shout out to our local County Council team of workers who make sure busy weekends and bank holiday morning pickups keep the town clean and tidy.
“Moran’s Menswear is this year’s overall winner. The store has a fine shop front painted a fabulous navy blue with large windows displaying fashionable brands such as Tommy Hilfiger, Gant ,Superdry ,Bugatti and Farah. The autumn theme in the windows with hay bales on display attract your eye straight away to the store.
“Moran’s is not just a shop, it’s a superstore of menswear, offering top brands and the highest quality goods. Clean signage, pricing and labels provide easy flow of shopping in the store. The merchandise and stock is well displayed with all you need to build the winter wardrobe for 2025. Congratulations is extended to all the team at Moran’s Menswear.”
