Councillor Annemarie Ryan-Shiner nominated Monard Community Hall Committee describing them as a beacon of hope and light that unites the communities of Solohead, Monard, Limerick Junction and the surrounding areas.
The Committee was founded in 2019 after discovering that they had a marvellous amenity in their area that could serve as a venue for community events, classes and more.
The hall was originally opened in 1954 and was renowned for its dance floor and high ceilings.
It once housed a boxing club and a badminton club and has expanded to include dance classes, sewing classes and a Christmas Fair.
To enhance the hall, they started fundraising efforts aimed at upgrading the insulation, installing a new heating system, and replacing windows and doors, as well as building a new kitchen.
They have held several Christmas fairs, Ladies Nights, a Pop-up Shop and a Mental Health Awareness Evening.
The hall is a hive of activity every weekend, as numerous groups use the space for classes in knitting, crochet, flower arranging, language studies, and more.
